Here is a recipe from my eBook: Get Crocked. Serve Slow Cooker Beef Stew with biscuits or crusty bread to soak up the yummy sauce. For best results, use a 6-Quart Slow Cooker. I hope you enjoy this as much as my family does!
- Layer potatoes on the bottom of your slow cooker.
- Next, layer carrots on top of potatoes.
- Place meat on top of carrots.
- Sprinkle meat with soy sauce, salt, paprika, pepper & flour.
- Layer chopped onions evenly on top of sauce/seasonings.
- Combine beef broth & tomato sauce and pour over everything in the slow cooker.
- Cover. Cook on Low for 7 – 8 hrs. (or high 4 – 5 hrs. if pressed for time)
Happy Crocking!
Are you supposed to cook the beef a little before you place in the slow-cooker?
Hi – no need to cook the meat before putting it in the crock. It will fully cook while it’s in there. Thanks & Happy Crocking!
I don’t have “condensed” beef broth…can I use regular beef bouillon (mixed with water)?
Absolutely! Just remember bouillon is a little saltier than broth, so you may want to adjust other ingredients. Enjoy and Happy Crocking!
Have you ever used Gluten Free All-Purpose Flour?
I have not Dianna, but would love to hear all about it, if you use it! Thank YOU! 🙂
The Gluten Free Flour worked out perfect, my husband wanted me to tell you “Thank You from a happy GF husband”!
Great thank you Dianne for posting, and thank your husband for asking you to let me know. Glad you both were happy! 😉
Do you think it would be okay to eliminate the soy sauce from this recipe? Thanks!
Sue, please make this recipe your own, as we all know not everyone cares for the same spices, or in some cases like soy, some people can not tolerate soy. Thank you for the question and Happy Crocking!
I had this cooking overnight and was able to send some with my husband to work today. He loved it! It’s not your typical beef stew but tastes great and is so easy to make. Thank you!
How many servings does this make? Looks delish
Hi Amanda, The serving size on all my recipes can be found on the upper right hand corner of the page. But happy to share this recipe serves 6-8! 🙂
Am I supposed to mix it at all while its cooking ?
Great question Kaitlin, but no, you don’t need to mix this while cooking. The best tip when using a slow cooker, unless otherwise told to, is not to lift the lid.. This will let the heat out, and cause your dish to need to crock longer to get done. 🙂
I know this sounds weird but could anything else be substituted for the potatoes and carrots? Hubby doesn’t like carrots and won’t eat the potatoes because of watching his weight!
Janis how about adding broccoli and cauliflower? Great for anyone watching their weight! 🙂
is there a difference between cooking it on low and high, such as tenderness? like if i cook it on high for the shorter time will it be less tender?
Alice it also depends on your slow cooker. A dish that states both temperatures, is for convenience too. But if we go to the key of a slow cooker it will be Low and Slow. Hope this helps!
Can I just use one cup of regular beef broth???
I’m sure that will work fine Holly! Happy Crocking!
Ok just got it all in and it’s filled to the top of my slow cooker, so I hope it cooks ok that it’s filled to the top !? Let u know how it turns out, I used GF flour and left out the soy sauce because of the sodium.
Hi, quick question. The “condensed” beef broth..is that the same as beef consume’ that you buy in the market(Campbell’s) or do I need to specifically buy “condensed beef broth”?
Hello Tiffany, Condensed beef broth has less water than regular beef broth, it is reduced down to make it stronger. You can always add water to the condensed variety if needed. I would use what you have on hand, I do not believe it will make that much difference as long as it is beef broth. Hope this helps, and Happy Crocking! 🙂
Is there a particular kind of potato I should use?? Russet?? Red?? Yukon??
With this recipe use your favorite potato. Enjoy and Happy Crocking!
I just realized I forgot to add the flour….is it ruined? I’m at work & can’t run home. 🙁
Add some garlic at beginning and green beans or lima beans near the end and you have a recipe for a hungarian stew. The Paprika in the CAN is the best!
Super easy beef stew recipe. This is my go to recipe. Delish!
