Cooking Time:

Ingredients
6 apples (cooking, peeled and quartered)1/4 c. water
Optional: up to 1/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
I first made applesauce at home when my daughter was a baby. (The baby food version of this is simply apples and water.) I quickly realized how much better the homemade applesauce was than anything I had ever tasted from the grocery store. So, I made this “grown up” version of applesauce for my husband and me – and now my daughter (who is no longer a baby) enjoys this version too. (NOTE: You can add brown sugar if needed for sweetness yet I find that if my apples are ripe enough, no sugar is needed!)
- Mix all ingredients in a 3 1/2 quart slow cooker.
- Cover and Cook on High for 2 hours or until apples are tender.
- Place apple mixture in a blender or food processor and puree until it reaches your desired texture.
Optional: You can double or even triple this recipe, just adjust the slow cooker size so it’s no more than 1/2 – 2/3 full when cooking.

I just made this and let me say it is wonderful! My son just told me it is amazing! That is a huge compliment from him.

I am making this tomorrow! So excited!! I have only ever made unsweetened cinnamon applesauce on the stove. This sounds SO good though!! Thank you for posting the recipe!
Hello Andrea! You will love this recipe, it is one of the favorites of our Crock Pot Friends! Happy Crocking!
Is there a certain type of apple that this works better with?
My favorite is honeycrisp but I would use whatever you can get locally. Let me know what you end up using. Thanks & Happy Crocking!
Do you have a recipe for this using pears?
I do Gary! Here you go! http://bit.ly/1lqwXUu Enjoy!
I have some very small apples from a neighbor. Can you tell me about how many cups are your 6 apples peeled and cut up? Thanks!
Rebecca it varies, just like the size of your apples, but I would say about 2 1/2 – 3 cups of apples. Hope this helps! Happy Crocking!
