Happy Crocking!
I made the nacho chesse chicken chowder tonight for my family and everyone loved it. Can’t wait to try another. Thanks I’m a true fan for life
happy crocking to U
I couldn’t find the recipe for Nacho Cheese Chicken Chowder. Where would I find that? Thank you.
It seems like so many of your reciepes, while it is awesome that you can do them all in a crockpot, it seems they take waaaay longer to do then if you just spent 20-30 min on the stove to make them.
Amy, it is the ease and convenience of crocking that so many enjoy! You don’t have to stand over the stove and watch whatever you are making, you simply put it in, turn it on, walk away, and when it’s time to eat… it is all ready.
Exactly, CONVENIENCE! I get up at 430 every morning. I work full time, finishing up a degree, and at 5, I go pick up my daughter and infant from daycare. those days that I make dinner in the crockpot, I thank God I have one because after making sure the kids are situated, bottles clean, homework done, both mine and child, then we eat dinner. For those evenings when I haven’t used the crockpot, dinner doesn’t get started until almost 7, then we’re eating closer to 830 to 9. So, those who have 20 minutes to start dinner whenever, cherish… Read more »
Wrapping in foil steams the potato; if you want a crispier skin, omit the foil, rub the potato with olive oil and sprinkle with salt.
Do you add water to the slow cooker with bake potatoes
Hello Joy! No there is no need to, but I have had some Facebook Friends say they add a tablespoon full. But not really necessary! Happy Crocking!
Definitely making this if I have leftover sausage from the cookout today!
is there a way to do this without the foil? I try not to use aluminum
Shirley, just soak the potato in water when you wash them, and make them without the foil. Happy Crocking!
Sound good
It’s the ease of being able to put something in the crockpot before I go to work in the morning and comming home to a home cooked meal that makes my crockpot non-negotiable. Also, everything in the crock makes for fast and easy clean up. A microwaved meal does not taste like a meal slow cooked all day!!
Enjoy my slow cooker for some things, sometimes but wondered about the energy used to cook potatos for 8 hours in a crock pot versus 45-60 in an oven. Also learned from my daughter if in a hurry can wash, pierce, place in a grocery store plastic bag, put in microwave. Very large potatos were done in 8-10 minutes
Pam there are many ways to make potatoes, but the crock pot is the energy efficient way, besides in the oven you heat up the kitchen. I also like that they are slowly cooked, where in the microwave, I feel you loose some flavor, but you should make them the way you like them. Thanks for the question, and comments. Happy Crocking!
I don’t think those shopping bags are approved for food use. I believe it says it on the bag itself. Go and buy those potato bags made for the microwave. I had gotten one a few years ago and it does make a perfect potato for a small bunch. For a larger crowd the crockpot sounds perfect.
I put my question in the comment section of this potato post but I thought I might get a better response from here. I want to buy a crock pot but there are so many out there to choose from. My husband is a big eater and we both love left overs so we need a large one. I have seen both the digital ones and the ones with a nob to turn. Not sure which one is best. I have read that the ones with the built in thermometers are not so good and that I want one with… Read more »
Hi Debbie, Glad you asked, as I just recently purchased the crock pot that is a favorite of my Facebook friends. I actually ordered it from the attached link, at a great price and I absolutely love it. My Facebook friends were absolutely correct. Here you go, and hope you order yours too. You will not be disappointed. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AO2PXK/ref=as_li_ss_il?ie=UTF8&tag=getcroccom-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001AO2PXK
Approximately how long does it take to get a regular russet potato done and what setting do you do them on (or doesn’t it matter)
Hi… the instructions say 8 hours on Low, which makes it nice when you put them on in the morning, and they are ready for dinner. Happy Crocking!
I don’t need to add any liquid to the crock? I’m concerned about the crock pot being on for 8 hrs with no liquid in it unattended.
Donna you don’t need to, but you can put a little if it would make you feel better. All up to you… Happy Crocking!
This might be a stupid question, but I better ask before I mess something up: do I wrap each potato individually, or all the potatoes I want in one large foil wrapping? Tks.
No worries! Wrap each one individually. Thanks & Happy Crocking!
I made these last week. They were pretty good but my husband likes a crunchy skin like the way it gets in the oven. Wondering if you can cook in the crackpot then throw in oven for a bit to get the cooked skin??
Absolutely Carrie!
Can I put these on high and if so how many hours do you recommend?
Lauren you can, I would recomment half the time. So you can check them is about 3 1/2 – 4 hours. Happy Crocking!
I want to make crockpot German Goulash. Where can I get german noodles or how can I make them. Thank You, Nancy
Nancy some super Walmarts carry spaetzle noodles while others don’t. Uusually in the ethnic section or pasta row. Check with your local Walmart or Grocery store. Happy Crocking!
Do you have a recipe you can share for that german goulash?
Yes Rose I do! You can also do a search on the upper right hand corner of each page for recipes you are looking for for future assistance. But here you go: http://www.getcrocked.com/2013/01/05/crock-pot-bakedsweet-potatoes-2/
I just bought a five pound box of sweet potatoes. Will this recipe work for them, or must I adjust it?
You might want to check out my sweet potato recipe: http://www.getcrocked.com/2013/01/05/crock-pot-bakedsweet-potatoes-2/ Enjoy and Happy Crocking!
I made the baked potatos in the crock pot once, just like the instructions said, except think mine were in the pot for abou 10 hours. The insides of the potatos turned brown? Not sure why this happened?
Sounds like they were over baked. Every slow cooker crocks differently, so this may be the reason. If you slow cooker tends to crock hot you may need to not crock things as long as directed. Hope this helps! 🙂
Probably a silly question but is this meant for just a single layer of potatoes or could you double the layer if the crock pot is large enough?
Hi Becky, you can layer them on top of each other…. 🙂 Happy Crocking!
