Slow Cooker Cinnamon Rolls

  • Cooking Time:

    2-3 hours
  • Servings:

    8-10

Ingredients

1 can of biscuits (found in the refrigerated section of your grocery)
1/4 c. melted butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla
pecan pieces (optional)
Glaze:
1 1/3 c. powdered sugar
2 T. milk

In honor of Cinnamon Roll Day in Sweden (October 4th) (yes, really!) I’d like to share a yummy Slow Cooker Cinnamon Roll recipe. Your home will smell delicious as they cook!

  1. Coat the slow cooker lightly with cooking spray.
  2. Melt the butter in a small bowl and mix in the vanilla.
  3. Combine the brown sugar and cinnamon in a separate bowl.
  4. Roll the biscuits in the butter and then in the brown sugar / cinnamon mixture. (Biscuit is whole so coat the biscuit)
  5. Place prepared biscuits in the slow cooker and sprinkle with pecan pieces, if desired.
  6. Cover the crock pot with a paper towel and then place the lid on top. (this will help prevent condensation from dripping on the rolls while cooking)
  7. Cover. Cook on low 2-3 hrs.
  8. Mix glaze ingredients in a small bowl (add more/less milk as needed) and pour over warm rolls.

NOTE: Facebook friend posted that she used Rhodes frozen bread and cut them in pieces and it was awesome!

I want to try these. I’ve not had good luck with baked goods in a crock pot, so I’m hoping they turn out as good as they sound!

Carrie, you and me both 😉 I’m starting to think it may be my crockpot because heck, I bake pretty good in my oven. My lemon cake that I tried (bowl in crockpot) was a disaster. So this seems simple enough and if it doesn’t work, no more desserts in crockpot even though they all seem so yummy.

Do you use a biscuit like pilsbury biscuits? And do you roll them into balls before rolling into the mixture? They sound delicious!

I die for cinnamon buns but never have enough time (or patience) for the “real thing!” This recipe looks so so so good I am making them ASAP! I’ll post the jubilant response from my kids as well!

Sounds yummy! What happens if you cook them longer? Say, all night so they are ready first thing in the morning?

I have to say this did not really work for me. The biscuits tended to burn in the bottom and took longer than expected. I did not roll into ball (saw this in comments afterward) and maybe I should have, but the overall taste was not that great. Love all the crock pot ideas, but for me this one was not that good!

Just put them in crockpot…. Will say I could have halved the butter and b. Sugar and still had plenty. Hopefully they are delicious.

I would like to see instructions to roll into balls in the directions (if I missed it I am sorry but didn’t find it)…do you cut the biscuits into 1/2’s or each biscuit is ONE cinnamon roll? Can an older crockpot be used, one that is deeper than the newer oval ones? Mine is from the 70’s with a nonremovable liner. Thx.

I still have an older orange crockpot. I like the way it cooks slow. My newer one cooks to fast even on the low setting. I do like both of them though for cooking different dishes.

Can you do more than one can of biscuits at a time and stack the biscuits? Will they still cook the same?

Hi – I’m in Australia and biscuits are different… I am guessing your biscuits are more like scones? And how do you make from scratch because i can’t buy a canned version??

@Liz An American biscuit is almost exactly a scone. It is a non-yeast bread. We sometimes call them baking powder biscuits and are also very similar to shortcake. The only difference is that biscuit recipes tend not to have any sugar in them. Most scones are sweet – at least they are in the US. Bisquick is just self rising flour with salt.

When you say roll the biscuits in the mixture, do you mean dip or coat them or do you mean roll while coating them? Should they be a ball when going into crock pot? You did these the night before and put on a timer, right?

I made these today-they turned out absolutely fabulous! I used frozen pizza dough and prepped everything the night before, then cooked them this morning. I defrosted the dough, cut it into 13 pieces, rolled each one into a ball, then rolled into the butter/vanilla mix, then into the cinnamon sugar mix. I used my hands for the whole process-it did get messy, and the butter mix ended up with cinn/sugar in it, but it didn’t matter. Any left over of both mixes I poured on top of the rolls inside the crock pot. I left the crock pot liner in… Read more »

i read everyone’s comments before i attempted this recipe. For all those who need specifics (like i do at times) i used Buttermilk Grands biscuits by Pillsbury. i did cut them in half and I squeezed 14 in there. 13 would have been comfortable but i didn’t know how to cook a ball of biscuit so i just squeezed. i did make extra glaze (i even added 1 tsp of cinnamon sugar in the glaze). i cooked them for about 2h 15m and they were still a little soft, but 2h and 30m was good. My crockpot is fairly new… Read more »

This may be a strange recipe, but I’m thinking of making these and taking them to the in-laws’ house for Christmas morning. They live a little over an hour away, so my thought was to cook them until they were just a little underdone, then when we arrived at their house, turn the crockpot on and complete the process so they are warm and, hopefully, just a little bit gooey (my favorite!). Do you think this would work? Any suggestions on how you would do this? Thanks for the fantastic sounding recipe! I can’t wait to try it!

Devin, I think the timer she is talking about is the timer that you would use for turning your lights on and off when you are away. They are pretty inexpensive at Walmart, Target or any hardware store.

I have the Rhodes frozen rolls in my freezer. My question is do you thaw them out before you put the rolls in the crockpot? And if you do thaw them, how do you do that? Thanks so much.

I am really impressed with how these turned out ;i didnt have any canned biscuits so i whipped these up http://www.crisco.com/Recipes/Details.aspx?recipeID=2333 making 14 kinda thin circles then pinching together for 7 biscuits to get the layered effect , then these baked in the crock for 2 hrs

heres a picture i posted of mine https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10200916221857759&set=a.1122409750400.19342.1531774909&type=1

Wow and YUM! I was a little worried that this would turn out with gummy-insides. I used 8-count Grands Biscuits and cut about 1″ slice off edge of each. Took three of them and rolled together two times for additional rolls to help ease the fear of them being a little too much dough to cook well. Cooked for 2 hours and PERFECT!! Thanks for this blog

I was wondering what size crock pot you used for these? So many recipes for various slow cookers don’t list the SIZE of the pot to use, when I make things I’m always trying to guess if mine is too big, too small, etc.

Hello, your recipe sounds appealing. But, being Ukrainian, I do not understand the expression “the biscuit is whole” (as in “the biscuit is whole so coat the biscuit”), although I do understand every possible meaning of the word “whole”. Could you please paraphrase it so that I could understand what you mean. Thanks, and wishing you all the joy of cooking and inspiring others to cook and serve their families, too! 🙂

My crockpot maybe one that cooks too fast. I was excited about the “crispiness” I saw forming on the edges and it smelled so wonderful that I didn’t know in the meantime the bottoms were burning! It didn’t turn out that well for me on the first try but I am determined to try again!

I just made these this morning for our a snow day with my daughters. I cooked for 2 hours on low and the bottoms burned. Luckily I had used the flaky biscuits so I was able to peel off the bottoms and save the top, but I lost a lot by doing this. Next time I’ll try it out in my smaller crockpot and check them after 1 1/2 hours. The taste was really good though and my kids devoured theirs.

I’m pregnant and woke up at 4:30 this morning, and couldn’t go back to sleep. So I decided to try these! These came out amazing!!! The ONLY modification is more milk needs to be added to the powdered sugar. I cooked 2 hours which was perfect! If you are a simpleton like me and don’t want to make a bazillion modifications, just follow this recipe exactly! My 18 month old even got one as a special treat. Five stars

Sorry but these tasted just like the store bought cinnamon rolls by pillsbury. I’m not a major fan of the storebought ones to begin with but do love homemade/fresh cinnamon rolls, but these did not meet my standards. I am sooo glad that i used a liner for easy clean-up since 1/2 of them burned (rolled ’em & followed recipe) & I checked on & removed them in less than 2hrs of cooking on low (setting on Low/8hrs in a 6qt pot). I could halve the icing and be fine but that is a personal preference.
