Ingredients
1 lb. Fresh Brussels Sprouts, trimmed and halved1/4 c. Balsamic Vinegar
1 T. Pure Maple Syrup
1/2 c. water
4 sprigs fresh thyme
Salt and pepper, to taste
Optional: crumbled bacon
I use to “think” I didn’t like Brussels Sprouts, then I made Slow Cooker Balsamic Brussels Sprouts, and found I really like their delicious flavor! Yum!
- Trim and halve the brussels sprouts and place in a 3-Quart Slow Cooker. Sprinkle with salt & pepper.
- In a small saucepan, heat the vinegar and maple syrup until boiling. Reduce heat and stir in water.
- Pour over sprouts in the slow cooker and stir.
- Cook on High for 2 hours, adding the thyme sprig when there are just 30 minutes left to cook.
- Before serving, discard the thyme sprigs.
Optional: Crumble fried bacon and sprinkle over sprouts before serving!
NOTE: If you do not crumble bacon, this is a vegetarian side dish!
Happy Crocking!
There is a place called Brussels. This vegetable was named after it. Brussels (with an s) sprouts. That said, this sounds great! I will try it this afternoon.
Thanks Nancy… I have corrected the recipe, I guess I was typing the recipe as to how I must say it, but you are definitely correct! Thanks again for the help! 🙂
Why Do The Recipes Not Tell The Number Of Servings Each One Makes….It Lists The Nutritional Info Per Serving But Not What A Serving Size Is??
Janet each recipe shows the serving size in the upper right hand corner of each page, along with the time it takes to crock! Sorry you missed this information on the page! Happy Crocking! 🙂
Directions state that the sprouts are quartered. They look whole and halved in the photo. Would they only be quartered if the sprouts are large (those in photo appear to be small ones)? Thanks. Love your site!
Correct VaBreeze! These were small, but usually I find larger sprouts.
I was wondering what would be a good substitute for the red wine? We don’t usually have wine in the house, so I wouldn’t want to buy a bottle for such a small amount.
Hi Amy! Instead of red wine, you could use another liquid replacement, like cranberry, grape, or pomegranate juice. Even beef or chicken stock would work. Thanks for your question!
What red wine? This has maple syrup and balsamic vinegar.
Along with the serving sizes and the time, would it be possible to list the size of crock pot that goes with the recipe? That would be a great help! Thank you!
Can you double the batch and it will still turn out good? I know sometimes you have to adjust the ratio of ingredients when you double things.
Yes Amber, you would double the entire recipe to double, just make sure your slow cooker is 1/2 – 2/3 full as this is key in making all recipes. Enjoy!
Could you use frozen sprouts?
I tried these and although they were tasty, they sure didn’t look like the picture! They were not the vibrant green as pictured, but a brown color as a result of the balsamic vinegar and red wine, I assume!
How many brussel sprouts are 8oz?
I’m sorry Jamie, because the sprouts are different sizes I can’t answer that for you. You’ll just need to guess ?? 🙁
Just wondering how much wine as I do not see it mentioned in the recipe ingredients nor the directions but it is mentioned in the reviews
