Slow Cooker Bacon Ranch Chicken is a favorite with our Facebook Friends. I am sure you will enjoy as well.
- Place chicken breasts or thighs in a 5-6 quart slow cooker and pour broth over top.
- In a medium sized bowl, combine the crumbled bacon, salt & pepper, garlic, ranch dressing mix and softened cream cheese.
- Pour mixture over the chicken.
- Cover. Cook for 6-7 hours on LOW.
- When done, remove chicken and shred with two forks.
- Return chicken back to the slow cooker after shredding, stir in sour cream and cook for additional 30 minutes to warm through again.
Serve over prepared rice, pasta or your favorite starch. For a healthier dish, serve over spaghetti squash! YUM!

Dumb question, but does the chicken need to be cooked before putting it into the crock or can it go in raw?
Hi April….You know that saying there is no dumb question, well, we continue to live by that everyday. The chicken is not cooked before you place it in the crock pot. You will find most recipes do not want the meats cooked, some may want you to brown the meat, and for those recipes it does add flavor. Enjoy! and ……. Happy Crocking!
Can the chicken breasts be frozen when you put them in the Crock pot?
Hello Brittney, Yes…the chicken breast can be frozen when you put them in the crock pot. You may want to check them at the end of the time to make sure they are done, but most likely by them being on the bottom of the crock pot they will be done. It really depends on your crock pot….. Happy Crocking!
Going to try this this week. Also liked your FB page! Can’t wait to see what else you have in store.
When the food is done, do you shred the chicken or each it as a chicken breast?
Hello Alayna, yes you take two forks and pull the chicken breast apart to shred the chicken! Happy Crocking!
I made this last night and it was delicious!!! Definitely going to be making it on a regular basis. Thanks for sharing!!!!
Making this for dinner tonight… Do you have to stir it at all or just let it cook and then mix it together when you shred the chicken?
So Sorry Rachel, I was working on a project and just saw you post, so I hope you found the meal delish! But no you don’t have to stir, just when you put the chicken back in the crock pot after you shred it! Happy Crocking!
This a GREAT dish! I love that it literally takes 5 minutes to mix everything together and dump it in the crockpot. I severed it with some garlic mashed potatoes and carrots. This is a perfect fall and winter YUMMY meal.
Thanks for the recipe.

Is there any way to “save your recipes?”
Hi Cheryl, on my website at getcrocked.com, about midway down the page there is an area that says Share and Enjoy, and the first icon is a print friendly button. You can also share my recipe to your Facebook page in a folder, so easy access. Hope this helps, and Happy Crocking!
love the recipe. im going to make this and then I am also going to make a dairy free vegan version for my daughter and mom.
I am going to have to double this recipe to feed my family. I love my crock pot and I have tried a few other recipes on your site. Loved them too. Love your site.
Can I use grail powder instead and how much would I use. Thanks
Garlic
Made tonight – easy to do, but way too salty. I used the Healthy Request cream of chicken soup, with reduced fat and sodium, but it was still too salty from the ranch dressing mix. May try making my own ranch dressing mix and cutting the salt back. The garlic was a little overpowering, but I like garlic. Couldn’t even taste the bacon. I also used light sour cream and cut the calories almost in half.
Do you cook the bacon before putting it in the crockpot, with the rest if ingredients?
Michelle REAL Bacon Bits is a type of bacon. you can find it at the grocery store. Enjoy and Happy Crocking!
I need a meal tonight in about 6 hours. Is it okay to cook on high instead?
Couple questions please. Sounds great and would love to try.
What kind of soup and how much?
How much sour cream?
Would be making for only 2 people so probably only use 2-3 chicken breasts.
Thanks
Hello Destiny, you probably would just want to cut the recipe in half for two chicken breasts! The ingredients are on the page, are you unable to see the ingredients?
Hi, I’ve checked my pantry and only have cream of mushroom soup – not sure if this will work??
Happy New Year! I have this cooking right now and the flavor is delicious (had to sneak a taste). The consistency us too watery and not as creamy as I expected. Any suggestions??
Thanks!
Delia, no peeking, that will change the consistency… you can take a little corn starch in a little warm water, and make sure dissolved completely, and slowly mix in, to thicken up .. 🙂
Thanks! I tried that before I read this and it worked perfectly!
Do I add the can of water for the cream of chicken soup???
No Janin, don’t add the water per the can, only add water if the recipe calls for the water. Thanks for your question, and Happy Crocking!
Can you use chicken thighs or does it have to be chicken breast? Can you do half and half?
Eileen make this recipe your own, and yes you can use the thighs or even half and half. Enjoy! 🙂
I want to try this with plain greek yogurt instead of sour cream to cut the fat. Has anyone done this?
what do you think about adding a can of cream oif mushroom soup or mushrooms as well?
I would make this recipe your own, and be sure to write back and let us know how it turned out. Happy Crocking!
Can this particular recipe be cooked on high for half the time instead of cooking it on low?
In the recipe it lists
Last 30 minutes
Cream cheese
Then in the directions is says to put the cream, cheese in the beginning and the sour cream in at the end. Which way is it supposed to be?
Opps! Thank You for pointing this out to me, I have corrected he post. Happy Crocking!
Thanks for the correction on the cream cheese/sour cream. i noticed that in the post on FB and also asked. I have another recipe that you put the cream cheese in at the end so wanted to be sure. Can’t wait to try this one! Will print this one out now with correct info! THANKS!
Appreciate the nutrition facts. I often follow a weight watchers program and this makes it easy to calculate points.
Looking forward to trying some of these recipes as crockpotting is one of my preferred way to cook!
I saw some ladies saying “chicken soup” but the recipe says “chicken broth” which one is best?
