Slow Cooker Hot Fudge Cake is a great recipe to make when you are craving chocolate. It’s made with ingredients you likely have in your cupboard already – no need for a trip to the store! This cake is moist and gooey – the perfect combo of cake and fudge. Serve with ice cream and/or whipped cream. Enjoy!
- In a medium sized bowl, Mix together 1 cup of brown sugar, 1 cup of flour, 3 T. cocoa, baking powder and salt.
- Stir in milk, butter, and vanilla.
- Spread over the bottom of a greased slow cooker. (You can also use a slow cooker liner for easy clean up!)
- Mix together 3/4 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa. Sprinkle over mixture in crock pot.
- Pour in boiling water: DO NOT STIR!
- Cover and cook on high 2-3 hours, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

What size crock pot recommended?
I find that the larger, oval crock pots work best for cakes. However, you can use any size, just adjust time accordingly. You may have to cook a little longer in you have a smaller, deeper crock. Happy Crocking!
Both of my kids approved. I said, “So is this one I can cook again?” and they said, “Yes.”
Sorry but this recipe is gross! I had to throw out the whole batch. It was way too gooey and lacked flavor. I even tried to cook it longer to see if that would help and it didn’t. Sorry but this recipe is a HUGE bust!
I am so sorry that you didn’t care for the cake! I hope you try another one of our desserts!
My sister made this for our family this weekend and we all loved it. It isn’t firm like a cake, it is more like a gooey souffle-type dessert. I think it definitely needed the ice cream – would have been too chocolatey without it. We will make it again for sure (and it was really easy to make according to my sis)
Had the hot fudge cake this past weekend. So delicious! The warm/ cold combo between the cake and ice cream makes it all come together. Yummy!
I have never made a dessert in my crockpot. This cake looks super good, and I wouldn’t have to fuss with it. Sounds perfect.
This recipe was delicious! Tried it out for my first time tonight for a dinner gathering with friends, so I was really hoping it’d be a success- and it was! Thanks for posting it!
This looks and sounds delicious, but with carbs and sugar combined… which is what you do with diabetes, it comes out to 78 and I can only have 90 combined carbs and sugar a day lol. Dayyyyymmm wish I could have some :'( but it would take a couple of days of 0 carbs and water, and more water to bring my blood sugar back down to normal (for me).
Larry, you could use Agave Nectar or Stevia in substitute for sugar to lover the sugars for this recipe. It really is delicious! Happy Crocking!
Could you use a standard chocolate cake mix?
Hi Chrissy! For this particular recipe I do not believe a standard cake mix will work, but I am happy to share a recipe that it will work with. Here you go! http://www.getcrocked.com/2011/09/23/crock-pot-chocolate-lava-cake/
In the photo there appears to be some sort of icing or thick glaze on the cake. Does this form “automatically” or was it frosted for the photo? I only eat cake so I can have the frosting! 🙂 Not really, but I do love icing on a cake.
It is not icing Diane! Because the cake is a fudge cake the cake has the sauce served on top. It definitely has cake in it, but the fudge sauce is just so delicious! Happy Crocking and ENJOY! 🙂
Mine was not sweet at all. I followed the recipe so I am not sure what happen. It smelled so good but everyone was not happy with this one.
Hi I love your site I am in the UK and don’t really understand the weights I know C is for cups but what is T? Thanks I look forward 2 trying some of your recipes
Hi Michelle, I am very happy to assist you, T. = Tablespoon, and tsp. = teaspoon. Hope this helps! Happy Crocking!
I did not like the taste or the texture of this cake. I threw the whole batch away. So disappointed.
Hi I’m having a dinner party of aroun 10 and was goin to make this recipe! Should I double it?
I too followed the recipe and ended up with a very gooey mess, almost salty and bitter. Not sure what I could have done different after looking over the recipe twice. I was sad it smelled sooo good!
A big flop. Tasted bland and no one liked it. It will be going in the garbage. It’s a shame because we were looking forward to it and now I wasted time and money.
I love the fact that you put the nutritional value to the recipes. I would like to know what program you used to do that with.
I just made this a it turned out perfect. 2 hours in the large crockpot. I couldn’t be happier. For those that said it was salty, bland or gross, I am pretty sure you did something incorrectly.
This was delicious! It reminds me of Chili’s molten lava cake with that luscious chocolate sauce!! We had it with a side of vanilla bean ice cream!! Fabulous! Thanks for sharing (:
Hello. This looks great and my son actually wants this for his birthday (TODAY!). Approximately how many servings are in this recipe? We’re throwing a last minute surprise aprty for him this eve with about 25 folks. Should I double? Thanks! 😀
Hi Nickey… You will find the serving size in the upper right hand corner of the page, and it only serves 6, so for that many people, you might want to make a couple slow cookers and still double the recipe. Hope this helps!…

Does it recipe use cake flour –(plain flour or self rising flour???
Hi Gwen, it uses plain flour! Enjoy and Happy Crocking!
Is your cookbook available on ebook?
Yes Tonya it has over 450 recipes on the e-Book! Check it out on my website at http://www.GetCrocked.com!
It seems that there is way too much water in the recipe, it came out as cake in a sea of brown water. Is it really 1 3/4 cup water, not just 3/4 cup?
Hi DM, I make this frequently, and I use the 1 3/4 cup of water. It may be that your slow cooker does not crock as hot, and you will need to crock it a little longer. Hope this helps! Happy Crocking!
Can the liner be used in place of greasing the slow cooker?
Absolutely Lisa! Happy Crocking!
Mine didn’t come out well either. This is the first Get Crocked recipe that was a complete fail for me. After crocking for the 3 hours (and my crock pot usually cooks hot and I need less time than recipes call for) it was still under chocolate water. After tasting the “water” we decided to try the “cake ” part but the consistency wasn’t cake at all. It was like squishy fudge or thick, gelatinous chocolate flan. It was so weird. The flavor was good but we just couldn’t get past the strange, slimy texture.
There are no directions on the crock pot heat setting. I am assuming you want it on high. Also should you “preheat” the crock pot?
Hi Rose, sorry you missed it as it is stated to crock on High in step #6… Enjoy and Happy Crocking!
The first time I made it I followed the directions exactly ‘3 T. cocoa, baking powder and salt.’ I read this as Tablespoon and it also helps to remember to turn the crock pot on. Lol.
Made this last night and it was really good! Some people having problems, here’s what I think are the steps that make this a success. I used a large, oval crock pot and the boiling water step, make sure the water is BOILING when you pour it on top. Also, my slow cooker has vents in the lid. If yours doesn’t, tilt the lid while it cooks.
Made this tonight for dessert and it was flavorful and delicious! small portions recommended on ice cream. thanks!
