I love this Slow Cooker Hot Fudge Peanut Butter Pudding Cake for so many reasons. First – peanut butter & chocolate…need I say more? But secondly, it’s made from ingredients that I always have in my pantry. So if I get the itch to make dessert, there’s no running out to the grocery store. I hope you and your family enjoy this easy and delicious dessert as much as mine does.
- Prepare the crock by spraying with cooking spray or buttering the sides and bottom!
- Combine flour, 1/3 c. sugar, 1 T. unsweetened cocoa powder and baking powder.
- Add milk, oil, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
- Stir in peanut butter and pour into slow cooker.
- Mix together remaining sugar and cocoa powder (1/2 c. sugar and 3 T. cocoa powder)
- Gradually stir in the boiling water.
- Pour this sugar, cocoa and boiling water mixture over the batter in the slow cooker. DO NOT STIR!
- Cover. Cook on High 2-3 hours, or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Serve warm with ice cream of your choice.
Variation: Whipped topping is also great with this delicious cake.
Happy Crocking!
What size crock pot?
Hello Michele, I use my 4 quart crock pot for this recipe! Happy Crocking!
Can I double it? I have a lot of people to feed.
Hey Sara, you can double this, but you want to make sure your crock pot is big enough. As a rule of thumb for your recipe to crock properly, you crock pot should only be 1/2 to 2/3 full. This is for all recipes. Hope this helps…. Happy Crocking!
Will this work with chocolate syrup? The cocoa is the only thing I don’t have on hand:)
Cassie.. I am not sure, but the fun of cooking is working with what you have, so if you do make it with the chocolate syrup, please post back and let us know how it turned out. Happy Crocking!

Can you store this in the freezer if you can’t finish it all? This looks so yummy, but I live alone and there’s no way I can eat an entire crock of it in a few days.
Thanks!!
Leah most recipes you can store in the freezer! Great for when guests drop by too! Happy Crocking!
How many does this serve? The ingredients seem so small
Jennifer all of the recipes have the serving size in the upper right hand corner of each page, but I am happy to share with you that it serves 6! Happy Crocking!
Thanks… Wow I feel like such a dork I looked all over I don’t know how I missed that. Making this tonight so excited.
Can you substitute sugar for alternative, like honey, agave, xylitol or splenda?
You sure can Marilyn! Happy Crocking!
I can’t wait three hours for this! Does anyone have an idea of how it would turn out in the oven? What temp would be appropriate?
Can you cook this on low?
Hi Jen – Sure, you can crock on low, just add about an hour to the cooking time. Thanks for your question and Happy Crocking!

If you double the recipe, what should the cooking time be?
The cooking time should be the same, but you would need to use a larger slow cooker, and follow the rule of thumb! A slow cooker needs to be 1/2 to 2/3 full to crock properly. Happy Crocking!
How much flour?
In the ingredients it calls for 1/2 c. flour. Happy Crocking!
Can I use a 6 quart crock pot for this recipe?
I will share a rule of thumb with you Kelly. For a slow cooker to crock properly it needs to be 1/2 – 2/3 full. It will be close with a 6 quart slow cooker, as it may be a little large? But you could also test it before the time and see if it looks done with the toothpick test, then I would turn it off. Hope this helps, and Happy Crocking!
Do you use a natural peanut butter or will my favorite Skippy reduced fat work? Thanks.
Your favorite Peanut Butter will work great, in fact may make it the best dessert you have ever had! Happy Crocking!
Can this be cooked at night and be left put overnight then reheated the next day. I want to try this for work but I’m hoping it will be alright being left out over night.
Katy because this recipe crocks for 2-3 hours, you could crock the night before, refrigerate, and then if you want to put back in the slow cooker on warm the following day …. you could do that. But I would not leave it out all night without refrigerating.
Ok thank you. I’m going to try that
Another question…my crockpot has 4 heating settings. 4hrs and 6hrs on high and 8hrs and 10 hrs on low. Since this recipe calls for 2-3 hrs should I put it on 4 hrs and just time 2-3 on my timer? Please respond ASAP. I’m in the middle of making it. Thank you
Katy – I would use a timer and make sure you stop the crock at 2-3 hours. If you leave it in for 4 hours it will overcook. Thanks
When you say 1 T.
Does that mean 1teaspoon or 1tablespoon?
Hi Denise, T = Tablespoon, and tsp. = teaspoon. Thank you for the question. 🙂
Found your page while in the hospital having major surgery. Just came home yesterday and have saved many of your recipes. Saw this today and I am feeling the need for my house to smell good even though it could still be weeks before I can eat. So when the kids get home (to get the crockpot out for me) this will be smelling good! Thanks for all your recipes!
Thanks Hope – best wishes for a speedy recovery! A slow cooker can be your best friend while you are healing – so easy to cook and easy clean up. Happy Crocking!
I made this last night and my coworkers absolutely loved it. They are even asking me for the recipe. Thanks for posting this recipe. It’s a keeper. Sooooo yummy
I am a new fan! Just wanted to say that, in reading the comments, it is wonderful to see your response time is so fast! I hope you see a lot of continued success!
My cake is in the crock pot right now. The kitchen smells great. A co-worker shared this recipe with me via Facebook. I was happy to see the comments about doubling the recipe! Cant wait to try it tonight.
I’m making this now and after three hours its hard at edges but still goey and wet inside! What can I do?
Hi Olivia, It is very important once the lid goes on the slow cooker that you not peek! I know it is hard with that wonderful aroma, but that will alter the way anything cooks. If this is not the case, then it may be that your slow cooker is crocking very hot, and you may want to check with the manufacturer of your slow cooker. Hope this helps! 🙂
Hi , I read the instructions a few times, should I spray the crock so the cake doesn’t stick?
Yes, I will modify the recipe, as it is just like any cake you should butter or spray the crock. Use the method you normally would use. Sorry for the confusion! Happy Crocking!
Hi, I made this in my 4 quart oval cooker.
I think I would have been better off making it in a smaller round cooker though.
It was still yummy! However, the wider surface meant that the cake layer was quite thin and the sauce was the barest smudge across the bottom.
Looking forward to trying it again.

Delicious! Thank you so much for sharing – I’m a huge fan!
I made this tonight…it was SO GOOD!!! Like you said, it is so easy and made with stuff that is always on hand! I used a 6 quart slow cooker and did 1.5 times each ingredient and it worked out perfectly. Everyone absolutely loved this, and I will definitely be making it again. Thanks for another great recipe!
