Slow Cooker Macaroni and Cheese is creamy and delicious. Adults and kiddos alike love this recipe! Another great thing about this delicious dish? Just mix ingredients and dump in the slow cooker. It doesn’t get any easier than that!
- Butter the insert of a 6-Quart slow cooker (or use a slow cooker liner, and grease well with non-stick cooking spray.)
- Combine all ingredients except the egg in a large mixing bowl.
- Crack the egg into a small bowl and lightly whisk. Add to mixture in large bowl and stir to combine.
- Pour mix into the prepared slow cooker.
- Optional Step: Dot the top of the mac & cheese with 2 oz. of cream cheese.
- Cover and Cook on LOW for 3-4 hours, or until macaroni is tender and sauce has thickened.
Option: If you don’t like the edges of the mac & cheese to be crisp, stir well half-way through and check for doneness right at three hours.

Is it necessary to use the slim milk? Will 2% work?
Yes Charity 2% will work fine. This recipe with the skim milk was to reduce fat. Enjoy and Happy Crocking!
I have a 4 qt pot, is it too big for this?
Hello Linda, As a rule of thumb a slow cooker should be between 1/2 and 2/3 full to crock properly. I have make it a little over, and it works, but I find I need to watch it a bit closer. Enjoy and Happy Crocking!
Can you freeze this and throw it in some other time, and would you have to adjust the cook time or just take it out of the freezer so it can thaw?
Hello Nick, you can do it either way. If you crock it frozen, it will take a little longer than if it were thawed. Enjoy!
I ordered my cookbook 2+ wks.ago. has not come yet.
So Sorry you should have received a download, but I will e-mail it right out to you! Happy Crocking!
In low or high for 4 hours?
Hi Laura as stated in step 4 on Low for 3-4 hours, but not more that 4 hours. All slow cooker crock differently, therefore it depends on your slow cooker!
Crock Pot….Comfort Food!! Life just doesn’t get any better! Pinning It!!
I made this exactly like the recipe and it was mush. Any idea why?
Hi Cheryl, sometimes you need to lift the lid at the end to crisp up Mac and Cheese, also each and every slow cooker crocks differently, so your slow cooker may crock hotter than others, and you don’t need to crock as long as a recipe states. Test yours on your next recipe, and once you know this you can adjust your crocking time for your slow cooker. Happy Crocking! 🙂
Excited to try this recipe. I want to add leftover ham. Any suggestions on when/how to add it (at the beginning when I mix everything else or at the end when serving, etc)? Thanks!
Kathy I believe you can do it either way. You just need to know your slow cooker, as some crock hotter than others. I’ve found with the slow cooker I use for this recipe, I don’t need to crock as long as it says. Hope this helps, and Happy Crocking!
Well I tried this for supper – it cooked on low for 3 1/2 hours and it’s all curdled 🙁 – I followed the recipe to the tee – what the heck happened??? It’s so bad I have to toss out :(. It looked nothing like your picture :(.
Leslie it sounds like your slow cooker cooks too hot. You may want to temper the milk first, which is to put it in the microwave for a few minutes to get it warm before you put it in the slow cooker. So sorry for your disappointment.
Thanks – I’m going to try this again 🙂 – it looks sooooooo good.
Could you tell me how many servings this recipe (and most others) makes? I’d like to try it some night soon.
Hi Christine, you will find the serving size on the upper right hand corner of each recipe page, but I am happy to share that this recipe serves 6-8! Thank your for the question, and Happy Crocking!
