hi there — one question: when you say “cover the crust” — what do i cover it with? a crock pot liner? thanks in advance!
Hey Jen, thanks for the question, you just need to place the lid on the crock pot to cover. I will make the instructions clearer. Happy Crocking!
I would love to try this but I am unsure of the instructions.. Are both crusts laying on top of each other on the bottom of the pot ? Or is that one crust fits only one side of pot and you need two to make a single layer?
Anne it is telling you to start in the center of the pot bottom for one side, overlap the center piece by 1/4 inch with the second crust, so both sides meet in the middle on the bottom an up the sides. If this is still not clear please let me know!
Can you use real apples?
You can Debbie, you would just want to make the sauce like you would if you were making an apple pie; sugar, cinnamon and etc.
What size of crockpot is best for this recipe? I have a 3qt and a 5qt. Thanks! Can’t wait to try it!
Sandra I would use the 5 quart for this recipe!
Have you ever attempted this recipe with fresh apples and if so do you add anything to it I am want to use fresh apples this time of year. Thanks! Stacey
Yes Stacy you can use fresh apples, but would need to make the sauce just like you would for an apple pie, with cinnamon, sugar and etc.
The recipe sounds delicious but I just wondered instead of canned pie filling can fresh apples be used? If so, how many and what kind do you recommend using and would anything else have to be added? And are the caramel candies the soft, chewy kind or hard caramel candy ? Thanks so much! 🙂
Pam you can use fresh apples, but would need to make it like you were making an apple pie with sugar, cinnamon and etc. The caramels are the soft caramel candies. You would want to use a baking apple, such as Courtland or Gala apples. Happy Crocking!
So if I understand right.. the crust will be in the pot bottom and the sides going up making basically a crust bowl with no seams? Excited to try it!
Yes Shannon, then you just scoop it out! YUM!
Do you spray the crock first or just leave it I am assuming?
I did not spray the crock, but it might work better if you would spray it lightly! Happy Crocking!
I don’t understand, how are you supposed to get the pie out of the crock pot when it is done? Break it up into pieces or chunks?
Hi Nancy! Yes you just dip it out…. Happy Crocking!
It is clear now thanks . I was confused because I was thinking it was a covered “pie” . Pie or deconstructed pie , it sounds delicious ( going to use real apples) and well worth a try !
I am making this now with fresh apples, cinnamon, sugar like an apple pie and it is sticking to the bottom, wondering if their was something i missed/ thanks Pat
Hello Pat, sorry you are having difficulty. Per your message you stated you used apples, cinnamon and sugar, I believe you may need more liquid with those ingredients, that may be why it is sticking to the bottom. I use 1/4 c. half-n-half with 2 T. flour with my apples cinnamon ad sugar. You might use these ingredients and see if it helps. Thanks for the question… and Happy Crocking!
