Ingredients
16 oz. black-eyed peas, dried1 ham hock, small or 1 lb. Turkey Smoked Sausage
14 1/2 oz. tomatoes, Del Monte zesty jalapeno pepper diced tomato
14 1/2 oz. tomatoes, with green chilies, diced
21 oz. chicken broth, canned
1 celery, stalk, chopped
Alternative to Ham would be 1 to 2 lb. Turkey Smoked Sausage
It’s said to eat black-eyed peas for Luck on New Years Day, therefore; Slow Cooker Black Eyed Peas are what you will want in your Slow Cooker for New Years Day!
- Pre-soak black-eyed peas according to the instructions on the package.
- Combine all ingredients in the slow cooker.
- Cover. Cook on Low for 9-10 hours.

This was delicious!! I used one package of Jennie-O smoked turkey sausage instead of ham and it was very flavorful. Great meal for a cold winter night.

does the ham hock need to be cooked before it goes into the crock pot?

Do you really have to soak the beans before cooking? I would have thought with that many hours in a slow cooker they wouldn’t need pre-soaking.
