I make C of W with milk. Would the measurements be the same?
Yes Julie! I believe it would be creamier with the milk too! Happy Crocking!
Could you do this with oats for oatmeal too?
I would think that you can! But there are many oatmeal recipes on our site too! Look at the Apple Oatmeal it is our favorite! Happy Crocking!
Would this work with the “instant” variety of CofW? Or does it need to be the conventional kind?
Hi Andrea – I would not use this with instant, only the original. Great question – thanks for asking! Happy Crocking!
Would this work with Farina?
Cedric, I have not used Farina, but believe it would work very nicely. Please post back and let us know how it turned out! Happy Crocking!
Farina ISSSSSS cream of wheat. Tehehe
How many servings does it make I have a family of four
Hi Nikki! You’ll find the serving sizes in the upper right hand corner of the website, but happy to share with you this serving size is for 4! Happy Crocking!
Can i double or triple this recipe in one crock pot? I have a reunion coming up and we need food in quantity.
Kami… You certainly can, but the key is that a crock pot should be between 1/3 and 3/4 full to crock properly, so if you do, be sure to use a large enough crock pot. Hope this help, and Happy Crocking!
Hi! How long does this last in the fridge? I’d like to know so I can make a weeks worth and just store it so its ready every morning 🙂 thanks!
Laura, I would think 4-7 days you will be fine! Happy Crocking!
Can this be frozen? Do you have to make it with salt?
Thanks for ALL these wonderful recipes! My life will be so much easier now that i found you 🙂
Hello Kristine! The fun of crocking is making things to your liking… Yes you can freeze Cream of Wheat, but have found it a little watery after it is frozen. Happy Crocking!
HI! I am new to crockpot cooking. What size crockpot would I need for this? I have a really large one and I think this would burn pretty quickly.
Mary I use my 4 quart or even smaller for this recipe, but the key is to make sure the crock is 2/3 full to crock for the time that each recipe calls for. Happy Crocking!
in the above recipe does 2/3c mean two thirds of a cup or does it mean 2 to 3 cups of CoW ?
Thanks for the question Dan, it means 2/3 of a cup. Happy Crocking!
Has anyone tried this recipe with milk? I would prefer to make it with milk but kind of nervous, not sure what would happen to milk that is in the crock pot for that long.
Christine, I have not made it with milk, but if you do, I would temper the milk or warm it a little before putting it in the slow cooker. Let us know how it turns out. Happy Crocking!
Any one else end up with a solid mass of CoW on the bottom and hot liquid on top?
Dan, I have made this several times, and I have not had this happen. Is it possible your slow cooker is crocking too hot? You may want to check with the manufacturer on your slow cooker. So Sorry! 🙁
Tried this last night and that’s totally what happened to me! It’s still edible, but you have to really stir and smash the solid mass into the liquid on top. Lesson learned: make during waking hours and when home, stirring consistently throughout.
Ended up with a solid mass at the bottom also. Brand new little 2 QT slow cooker purchased just for breakfasts. Oatmeal worked out great though. Bummer this didn’t.
Sorry Karin! You may want to add extra liquid when making cream of wheat, as it is a different texture than oatmeal. So glad the Oatmeal worked for you. Have you made the Apple Oatmeal, it’s my families favorite! Happy Crocking!
2 suggestions for avoiding the solid mass and liquid on top problem: first, don’t let the cream of wheat sit in cold water very long. I cook mine in a mixing bowl in a water bath in the slow cooker, and I let the water bath heat up first. Second, try a different brand of cream of wheat.
Would it cook the same with almond milk?
Almond milk would work wonderfully! Great idea Kass! Happy Crocking!
Can you make this ahead and put it in small mason jars to eat throughout the week?
Great idea Cindy! Happy Crocking!
I just have to say how extremely disappointed I am! I woke up to find that it was totally burnt. I stayed up late so I could time it to have breakfast but found it like that. The only way I can see it working is if you stay up until midnight for it to be ready by a typical breakfast time, or do it during the day so it can be watched, but I wanted it for breakfast. 🙁
So sorry for your disappointment. I sometimes set my slow cooker, when crocking over night for about 1/2 to 2/3 the time it states on the temperature stated, and have my programmable slow cooker turn to warm so it will finish crocking, but keep it moist. But it also depends on the slow cooker. Every slow cooker crocks differently, so if yours seems to crock hot, you would want to do it this way. Hope this helps! Please let me know how it turns out?.?
I combine equal parts cream of wheat, unprocessed wheat bran, and unprocessed wheat germ. (Available on Amazon and other places.) Then I cook 6 tablespoons of this cereal mixture in 1 1/4 cup water for 2-3 minutes. This blend is high in fiber, vitamin E, B vitamins such as folate; and it tastes SO GOOD! 🙂
