This looks so delicious. I am making it tonight!
I’m making this again tonight – made it last week and turned out really well! The first time EVER that my chicken breasts were not dry!
I use the coke/ketsup sauce with pork chops and serve with mashed potatoes and green beans. I’ve been cooking this for my family for 30 years. It’s one of our favorite comfort food meals. P
Making this for dinner tonight…making BBQ chicken sandwiches and french fries!! I ended up using Root Beer because that’s all I had…thinking it should still be yummy!!
Just wondering how it turned out with the Root Beer instead of Cola? It sounds like it would be yummy!
I love root beer! How was it?
Has anyone tried it with drumsticks? Just wondering how that would work instead of breasts.
Sarah the fun of cooking and crocking is making things the way you would like it, I am sure drumsticks would work just as well. Happy Crocking!
how many chicken breast do i use and I need to boil it right
Hello Irene… 1 1/2 lbs. is about 3 or 4 depending on the size of the chicken breast. Happy Crocking!
Hey! I am super excited about my brand new crockpot and for this recipe! I’ve never used a crock before, and when I got put in charge of a dinner for a crowd on Tuesday (tomorrow) night, I made the decision to make this for the main dish! The problem is, I need to feed more people than what 1.5 lb of chicken breasts will feed. I got enough chicken, and plan on cutting it smaller before adding it to the crock. But my question is, should I double/triple the cola/ketchup and time? Or just the ingredients? I can’t wait… Read more »
Katie, Congratulations on your first crock pot… You will be hooked now. It depends on how many people you have coming, but you should double or triple the recipe. As a rule of thumb a crock pot should be 1/2 to 2/3 full to crock properly, so this should help make your decision of if you should double or triple all the ingredients in the recipe. If you can only double the recipe because of the size of your crock pot, you may want to borrow a friends, and make two pots for your guests! Hope this helps and Happy… Read more »
Thank you so much for the advice! As a first time crocker, I’m a bit nervous, but I am sure it’ll all come out great 🙂 I’ll have to let you know – ALSO, may I link to your recipe from my blog? I wanted to blog about my first crock experience!
Hmm.. Smells good. I have yet to taste, but it didn’t come out the photo. There’s quite a bit watery? I don’t know? It’s on low since the morning… hopefully I’ll come home to something prettier.
Hey! Mine is really watery too… I have an hour and 44 minutes left on the timer, and it just began to boil – I chose to set the timer for 8 hours instead of 6 since I tripled the ingredients. We shall see!
Is it possible to take the lid off at the end and try to let the water evaporate out? I’ve never crocked before.
Turned out PERFECT!!!! Thanks for the recipe. Can’t wait to try more from Get Crocked!
This recipe looks good, but my huband HATES ketchup (with a passion) could I use a cup of BBQ or tomato sauce as a substitute?
Teresa sometimes we just have to substitute where we need to for our family. I would use either. The BBQ will give it some kick, and if you like it that way, then go for it! Happy Crocking!
Hi I’m using thin sliced breasts does that make a difference in time? Also what if I needed to cook on high setting how much time then? Thank you!
Karina if your breasts are thin, I would reduce the crocking time. If you are crocking on high with the thin breasts I would check it at 2 1/2 hours, and if you feel it needs longer, then you can adjust.. better be safe than sorry! Hope this helps, and Happy Crocking!
For the cola, does it matter if it is regular or diet??
Debbie with this particular recipe, it calls for regular, but if you do make it with diet, please post back with your feedback, as everyone would like to know your final results. Happy Crocking!
I made this recipe Thursday for my family. Everyone loved it including my 6 year old son who is very picky. Thanks for sharing.
I’m so glad that you loved it, Tiffany! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Happy Crocking!
I just found your site and I’m loving it. I’ve been crocking for about 4 months now and I have been looking for a place with new recipes and ideas. I’m making the chicken and dumplings (your recipe) tonight for the first time and am looking forward to making the cola chicken next week. It sounds wonderful. Thanks!
I just tried this recipe – it is so GOOD! Loved it! Made a BBQ sandwich and paired it with a few sides. Very tasty & the slow cooked chicken is super moist! Thank you for posting this; can’t wait to try more of your recipes!
Thank you Kiran, I love this recipe as well. Happy Crocking!
Could this be all mixed together, frozen, then cooked later? I’m not sure if the cola would mess with the texture of the chicken if frozen. Has anyone tried this?
Hi Amber – you could mix this and then freeze but I would leave out the cola. Just put the frozen items in the slow cooker when you are ready and then add the soda. Happy Crocking!
I have a bag of frozen, chopped onion – could I use that instead of the sliced, fresh onion?
Yes, that would definitely work. Happy Crocking!
Absolutely delicious, easy and inexpensive!
Can you cook this on high temp?
Danielle if you would like to crock on High you could do that for 3-4 hours… I will share that some recipes flavors require the slower cooking, but I am sure this will still be good.. Happy Crocking!
Do the chicken has to be frozen or thawed ?
Hi Tom, This particular recipe you could use frozen or thawed chicken. If you do use frozen, it will most likely need to crock about an hour longer, but with some slow cookers that wouldn’t even be necessary. To be sure you might invest in a meat thermometer. Hope this helps, and Happy Crocking!
I have a question…does the c stand for cup or can?
Yes, c. stands for cup. Thanks!
I make this alot for my family and i shred the chicken after its cooked in the crock all day, then throw the shredded chicken back into the sauce, simmer for about 20 mins more and serve. Its absolutely yummy and my family loves it! Better than sloppy joes because its made with chicken!
How do you print the recipes? I don’t see a space that says print recipe.
Would someone email me at fcwilliams904@gmail
On the recipe page there is an area that says Share and Enjoy, and the printer is the first icon… Enjoy!
Has anyone ever tried it with Mountain Dew?
Hi Holly make this recipe your own, I am positive you will enjoy it even more if you use the soda of your liking! Happy Crocking!
Could you use a whole chicken with this recipe?
Rachel make this recipe your own, and you definitely can make a whole chicken with this recipe. Enjoy and Happy Crocking!
I would like to make this using a whole chicken as well, but how long would I cook it for, on both low or high???…my whole chicken is thawed and weighs close to six pounds….any feedback would be helpful. Thanks!!
just wondering if this can be cooked on HIGH, and for how long … i just bought my first crock pot (yes this is my first recipe 🙂 ) and it says not to cook on low setting or keep on low (warm) for more than 4 hours.
… confused! help!
thank you!!!
Lois if this is the instructions on your slow cooker, I would contact the manufacturer. The slower you make anything in the slow cooker the better it is. Hope this helps! 🙂 You can crock this on High and you would only crock for half the time, but I would still check with the manufacturer. Happy Crocking!
Do you have a suggestion for a subsitute for the onion that would still give it the flavor? My husband has an allergy to onions. Thanks
Hey, I have been trying your recipes for a couple months now and they have all been great! Today I am trying the cola chicken for the first time. This is the first time I am doubling the recipe though, my question is does that mean I need to double the cooking time or should I cook it on high? Thank you.
Hi David! No need to double the cooking time – just the ingredients. Make sure your crock is no more than 3/4 full and you will be fine. Happy Crocking!
I made this last week-end and unfortunately my chicken came out dry. Did it cook for too long? I did have it cook for 8 hours. Any suggestions?
Hi Jo! It sounds like you did cook it a little long. It also sounds like your slow cooker is cooking too hot. Hope this helps and Happpy Crocking!
Help do i cook the chicken first if sooooo how
No Krystie, you simple follow the recipe and place the uncooked chicken in the slow cooker to cook! Enjoy and Happy Crocking! 🙂
Absolutely delicious! I just made it this w/ chicken thighs. O.M.G. Easy & inexpensive. It’s sure to be a go to in the future.
I’m looking into purchasing a new crock pot what one do you recommend ?? Can’t wait to try all these recipes. Thanks in advance!
Hello Chelsee, I recommend a slow cooker that is programmable for sure! With our busy lives these days, to have your slow cooker turn to warm when it is done, and you may be away, will save the day. Happy to share a link with you, be sure to do a search for slow cooker, and they will all come up for you. http://amzn.to/18kRcpY
Thank you!!!
I made it with bone in frozen chicken breasts. I made white rice as a side and poured some of the “sauce” the chicken cooked in over the rice….OMG SOOO GOOD!! Tender and flavorful!
I am making this for dinner tonight! I threw in some peppers and I am using cherry coke instead of regular coke! I am planning on serving with scalloped potatoes 🙂 I’ll let everyone know how it turns out!
If you double the chicken would you recommend using another full can of cola?
One can should still suffice. Thanks for your question & Happy Crocking!
How do I mark this (and other) recipes to show up on my “favorites” list on my phone app I have downloaded? 🙂
Cindy there is a little arrow in the middle of the page, click on it, and you can add to favorites. 🙂
I made this recipe in my crock pot for dinner. And I have to say it turned out GREAT! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe
Thanks Hannah…. so glad to hear your dinner turned out GREAT! and….thanks for taking the time to post back on my site. Appreciate your feedback! 🙂
I’ve done this before, but with bbq sauce instead of ketchup. Turned out great! I even served it to company and got compliments on it. 🙂
FYI – it is never recommended to wash chicken. First, it spreads bacteria all over your kitchen. Secondly, water dilutes flavor. If you cook it according to directions and recommended temperature (165• F) you don’t need to worry about harmful bacteria.
How many does this serve? 1 piece of chicken breast per person?
This recipe Dnise serves about 5 people. Hope this helps!
I just love simple crock pot recipes. This sounds good to me. Pined it to try!
Love love love this recipe. And so do kids, 3,5,8 10.
Made it first time with pork roast, was great. We love it on Hawaiian sweet bread rolls! Sooo easy
Does it contain caffeine or does it get cooked out (like alcohol in wine)? I have a one year old and I don’t give her caffeine. Maybe I should buy caffeine free coke? This recipe sounds yummy!
Laura I would buy the caffeine free, truly understand, I have little ones too!
Is there any good way to cut a crock pot recipe in half? I am just cooking for myself.
Michelle the only good way is to halve the entire recipe, or make the recipe, and freeze half of it for another meal later. Hope this helps, and Happy Crocking!
Disappointing. 2/5 stars. The moisture was all right but the flavor was uninspiring. The sauce itself was watery and lumpy, nothing like the beautiful glaze in the picture.
Not sure what happened Emerald! As you can see from all the messages everyone loves this recipe! It is so easy too! Sorry for your disappointment.
