Best Ever Slow Cooker Italian Beef

    6-8 hours

Ingredients

3 lb. beef chuck roast
1 onion, quartered
10.5 oz. beef broth, canned
1 oz. au jus, dry mix packet
.7 oz. dressing mix, dry Italian salad dressing mix (such as Good Seasons®)
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground black pepper

Best Ever Slow Cooker Italian Beef is exactly what it is called – THE Best Ever! I know you will love it!

  1. Place beef chuck roast into slow cooker and scatter onion quarters around the meat.
  2. Pour the beef broth over the meat and sprinkle the au jus mix, Italian salad dressing mix, salt, and black pepper over the roast.
  3. Cover. Cook for 6-8 hours on Low or all day, until meat is very tender.

Optional: Top with Provolone Cheese and place under the broiler for just a few seconds to brown cheese!

This was an awesome recipe. Toasted the Italian rolls and then added the Provolone. 30 seconds under the broiler and then you are ready to dig in. Makes for a VERY good and hearty meal!

Easy and delicious. I used beef cubes because I had them in the freezer, and it came out great. I agree with the first commenter – toast the rolls, top with meat and provolone and place under broiler for 30 seconds – scrumptious!

To brown cheese without a boiler
put Provolone on a skillet and add the meat on top once the cheese browns flip and cook for a little bit then put it on the sandwich
To brown the bread to make it toasty
put mayo on the bread (on the inside) then put on skillet let it brown and put the meat and cheese on the yummy bread! (I used sub rolls wheat or white)
Horseradish mustard sauce would be good on these

my only suggestion is that when I make mine I add jar of sliced pepperoncini and a jar of hot giardiniera mix for a little more bite

Thank you for the reply. I’m going to cook it on high for 3 hours than turn it down. So, do you pull or shread the beef to make a sandwich like pictured? Going for sandwiches. Also, I’m going to make the Apricot Catalina chicken tomorrow & turkey meatloaf on Sat. Just LOVE your site, thank you so much!

I made this tonight for dinner. The meat was very good but it and the broth were very greasy. Trying to figure out if I did something wrong!

I made this today but I like to experiment so added 1 can of diced tomatoes w/green chilies and a can green chilies. It was wonderful!

I tried this recipe yesterday & it was delicious! We had the leftovers for dinner again tonight 😀 My fiance bragged to all the guys at work how good it was! The only thing I changed was adding in some mushrooms since we love mushrooms so much

i love Italian beef. i use about the same recipe except use beer and add beef bullion cubes instead of canned broth and peppercinis (drained and rinsed)

I make mine very similar, but add a jar of pepperocini (with liquid) and a packet of Zesty Italian dressing mix. Oh my, it is soooo good!

Im going to make this tomorrow for supper. Im going to add in some mushrooms, banana peppers, and green chilies. My question is do i add these ingredients at the begining or wait until towards the end of the cook time?

I am literally making this right now, but hesitated on the Italian salad dressing (only put on a tiny bit) because I’m worried my kids won’t like that flavoring. Will it still come out good and otherwise like it should if I don’t add the Italian? I’m assuming it would be more like a plain Philly sandwich, minus the zest, correct?

That is a lot of sodium so my plan is to use the broth and au jus but use Italian herbs and lots of garlic. What do you think?

I didn’t see an answer to @Danny from UK’s question about substituting au jus. I haven’t been to the grocer yet so would beef gravy mix or beef bullion cubes work? I can see changing this up by using mushroom soup and mushrooms. Crock pots are so great for cooking meat for flavor and tenderness.

Mine was too salty and I didn’t even add the salt. I will try low sodium broth next time. Otherwise very good.
