Making this today..cant wait!!!
Do you need the ground mustard? Will it make a difference?
Hi Liana if you don’t have the ground mustard, I would just add 1/4 tsp. or mustard from your refrigerator, and it should not change the taste at all. If you don’t have any in on hand I would leave it out, as it is not a large amount. Hope this helps, and Happy Crocking!
I made this yesterday and it was so delicious, i will make it again! ty
I’m always looking for cube steak recipes. This sounds good! Thanks! Pinning it!!
Do I just brown the outer of cube steak or cook through? Thanks 🙂
Just brown the cube steak Rhonda… It will cook in the slow cooker! Happy Crocking!
What is cube steak. Is there a different name for it?
Would Love to try this recipe !!
Check with your butcher Francine, it is run through the cuber by the butcher, and it is very good!
Really only interested in recipes that don’t require extra pot’s do you think this would be ok doing crock pot only
Melinda please make this recipe your own. I would say the browning of the meet and the onion would add extra flavor, but I am sure it will still be very good! Enjoy!
I made this on Sunday and it turned out great, but the inside of the cube steaks never browned (only the outer layer, which I browned on the stove as directed). It was in the crockpot on low for over 7 hours so I know it has to be fully-cooked, but the color and texture are both a little weird. And it’s not the first time this has happened when I’ve cooked ground beef in the crockpot.
Is this normal?
Hi Linda you may want to TEST your slow cooker to make sure it is crocking properly. I got this from examiner.com, but better be safe: 1. Fill your slow cooker a half to two-thirds full of cool water (about two quarts, depending on the size of your cooker). Heat covered on low for two hours. Do not peek, that will allow the steam and heat to escape and invalidate your test. 2. With a food thermometer, check the temperature of the water. Do this quickly because as the lid is removed, the temperature can drop quickly. The temperature should… Read more »
Just made this yesterday, and it was delicious. Didn’t have dry mustard so used regular bottled mustard. Will make again. Meat was very tender!
Haven’t made it yet but I am going to. It sounds so good and easy.
Can I use the drippings in the pan, along with flour, to mark my own gravy? This sounds just wonderful.
Julie, please make this recipe your own, and I am sure that would work for you too! Happy Crocking!
I thought all gravy packets were basically the same, but I noticed the one I have, when you make it per directions, uses 1 3/4 C water (part of it you boil, part you mix with gravy mix in cold water, then add the 2 together) I wonder if I should increase the amount of water in this recipe. I’d hate for it to be runny.. but would also hate it to end up like beef jello 🙂
Pamela, I would add part of the water, and see how it works, and if you need more water add it toward the end, so it is not runny for you.
Help. Went out and bough cubed steak since this recipe looks so good. No time for slow cooking. Do I keep cooking in pan or put in oven after browning for best tenderness?
I love this recipe. I leave out the salt and onion and use a packet of Liptons dry onion soup mix. I also put Kitchen Bouquet on the steaks before I dredge them in the flour mixture. We like lots of gravy so I add a jar of Heinz brown gravy. Tastes great!
