Slow Cooker Cheesy Breakfast Souffle

  • Cooking Time:

    4-6 hours
  • Servings:

    8

Ingredients

1 loaf of white bread
3 c. grated sharp cheddar or gruyere cheese
1/4 c. butter, cut into small pieces
6 large eggs
3 c. warm milk (important to temper with eggs)
2 T. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp. salt
Paprika
Dried Mustard
Optional: Add your favorite herb, basil, oregano, cilantro (your choice)

Slow Cooker Cheesy Breakfast Soufflé is an easy and tasty alternative to making eggs in the morning. I usually have all of the ingredients on-hand so I can make it even if it’s a last-minute request from my husband or daughter. (It usually starts with “you know what would be good for breakfast tomorrow…”) I hope you like this simple recipe as much as we do. Happy Crocking!

  1. Tear bread into small pieces. Place half the bread in a generously greased slow cooker.
  2. Add half of the cheese and half the butter.
  3. Repeat with another layer using the second half of each ingredient – bread, cheese, butter.
  4. Beat together eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce and salt, then pour over bread and cheese.
  5. OPTIONAL: Chop up your favorite fresh herb and add, if desired.
  6. Sprinkle with paprika.
  7. Cover. Crock on Low for 4-6 hours. DO NOT open until ready to serve.

NOTE: If desired, you can add 1 cup of cooked, diced ham to this recipe. Just divide and use half for each layer.

Happy Crocking!

What do you think would happen if I added breakfast sausage, either cooked or uncooked? I once had a meal at a restaurant called “sausage bread” which was a really eggy bread, with crumbled breakfast sausage and cheese. This looks really similar, so I thought perhaps I could re-create the recipe.

what size is your crock pot? A lot of recipes are using a small size than mine.

This is the same recipe our family has every year at Xmas except we also add either ground sausage, diced bacon or ham. Glad to know I can do it in the crock pot now!

Hello, I am curious, how do you do this so it will be ready in the morning? If you cook it for 4-6 hours, and you get up at 8 on the weekend, it wouldnt be ready until afternoon? Do you have to get up at 4 in the morning? UGH! I love the looks of the recipe, and would love to wake up to breakfast Saturday morning.

I would use a plugin timer, I use them to turn on and off my lights when I am on vacation and also for my Christmas lights in my windows. Just set the timer to start the crockpot whenever you want !!!

Do you have to get up early in the morning to do this? If it takes 4-6 hours to cook how is it for breakfast? Can this be made the night before?

why does the milk have to be hot? And by hot do you mean scalding or just pretty warm? It seems to me that hot milk would scramble the eggs?

Do you think you can freeze this, thaw then dump in crockpot? Wasn’t sure how the bread and egg mixture would freeze

Can you double the recipe? I have one of the larger crockpots and wanted to make breakfast for a group of people, about 25.

This is the first time I have ever ‘gotten crocked’. Used a 2 qt. Rival I received as a gift 16 years ago. Substituted leftover yeast rolls and some 15 grain bread that was just about done and added sliced turkey kielbasa to add more protein. Crocked on low for 6 hours and…perfection! Looked dense but was airy, fluffy and light. Would add a little less salt next time.
