Ingredients
1 1/2 c. Sugar1 1/2 c. Brown Sugar (packed)
3 T. Cinnamon
1/8 tsp. Salt
1 Egg White
2 tsp. vanilla
3 c. Almonds (whole) or Nuts of your choice
1/4 c. Water
Slow Cooker Candied Almonds are to die for! I have always loved almonds made this way and was thrilled to find I can make them in the Slow Cooker! They make a nice (and low-cost) gift around the holidays as well.
- Combine brown & white sugars, cinnamon and salt in a medium sized bowl and set aside.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the egg whites and vanilla until frothy.
- Toss the almonds in the egg white mixture and stir to coat well.
- Add the cinnamon-sugar mixture to the almonds and mix until almonds are coated.
- Use a slow cooker liner or use non-stick spray to coat the crock well.
- Place coated almonds in the slow cooker and crock on LOW for 3 hours. Stir every 20 minutes (this is important!)
- When 3 hours crocking time is done add 1/4 c. of water and stir well.
- Cover. Crock on Low 1 more hour (continuing to stir every 20 minutes)
When finished crocking, place individual almonds on a sheet of parchment paper to cool. Enjoy when cooled!
Happy Crocking!

Oh, yum! I love these kinds of almonds, but they are so expensive to buy! Think I might make some up this week as a surprise for hubby who also loves them. Thanks!
I was really excited to try this recipe. Made it today and planned to give away as gifts or add to my cookie trays. Not happy with them at all. Followed the recipe exactly and although they are edible, they are not
Something I want to give away. I’d love to hear from other people. Did the recipe turn out the way you expected?
Allison so sorry you were not happy, they were delicious for me, and several others have posted on facebook that they loved them too! 🙁
They taste good but are sticky and not sure i feel comfortable packaging them to give to people. After looking at several other recipes, it looks like the amt of sugar should be reduced which will decrease the stickiness.
I just made them today and they turned out great. I followed the recipe and they’re not sticky at all.
Just Finished these and they are great! They taste just like I expected and are not sticky at all! They will make perfect gifts! Thanks so much for this great recipe!
I was going to make these for Christmas so I was going to double the batch. I have a huge crockpot. Do you think they won’t turn out right if it’s doubled?
Hello Lindsay, I haven’t doubled this recipe, and I don’t believe any of our facebook friends have posted that they have, so I really am not sure… But so many have posted how good they are, so maybe this time you should make two batches?? But if you do double, please post back and let us know! Happy Crocking!
Hello, I have attempted to make these today, following the recipe exactly. I am wondering if they need more water. I have cooked these on low for 3 hours, stirring every 20 minutes, and then added 1/4 c. of water for the 4th hour. I am still stirring every 20 minutes. The sugar did not dissolve to coat the almonds, so I still have a bunch of sugar that I am stirring on the almonds. I thought that the water would help it, it just turned a bit more clumpy. The aroma coming out of the crock pot is amazing,… Read more »
Hi Lisa – I am wondering if your crock gets hot enough. Perhaps that is why the sugar didn’t dissolve at all. I haven’t had a problem with this recipe however if you read through the comments a few people did. This may be one that the type of crock pot may be really important. What kind of crock are you using? Thanks and sorry they didn’t turn out for you!
Are they raw almonds or roasted almonds? Thanks!
Hello JoAnn, I used the raw almonds, but I am not sure it really matters…. Happy Crocking!
When putting the almonds in the crock pot do you put the almonds and ALL of the sugar mixture in there as well? How long did it take the sugar mixture to start “melting”? I am in the process of doing this so I am asking a bit late, but wondering if i should turn the temp up since I am over an hour into the process and sugar mixture doesn’t seem to be melting.
Christi! Sorry I am just responding, but you don’t need to turn up the crock pot, as the whole process is on low, and if it goes the whole time it comes out perfect. Hope it turned out, as they are wonderful!
I just made these but added coconut, they are delicious!!!! I cut back 1/4 cup of each sugar as well as the cinnamon and added 1 cup of coconut. I also used 4 cups of almonds instead of 3. They are wonderful and I just thought i’d share because I looked everywhere for a recipe with coconut with no luck so I tweaked this one.

I tried making these and they turned out more like an almond brittle. They aren’t edible at all. Very disappointed. I was planning on sending these overseas to my soldier :/
Rebecca, I am so sorry for your disappointment, I have made them several times, and as you can see from the other posts, that several have made them, and raved about them. Although there were a few that posted their disappointment! I’m not sure what went wrong??? 🙁
When do you add the 1/4 cup water? After cooking for 3 hours? Also, stir every 20 minutes during the 3 hour?
Hello Glennda, yes, you add the water after the first 3 hours and stirring. The stirring is very important! Thanks for the question, and Happy Crocking!
Can you clarify please? Do you put the nuts AND sugar mixture in the crock pot or pick out the nuts and just cook them? Instructions aren’t clear on that. Can’t wait to see how these turn out! 🙂
Hi Kelly, after you coat the almonds in the egg white and vanilla, they will actually be a little sticky, so then you add the cinnamon-sugar mixture from the 1st step to coat the almonds… this is really good! Enjoy and Happy Crocking!
What size crock pot do I need? I was looking for it on another recipe as well. Is it possible to include the size of the crock pot needed on your recipes? I did see it on one recipe that I plan to make. Just a little added comfort in knowing that ‘extra ingredient’. 🙂
I followed the recipe exactly at T-1 hour, it still looks like a bunch of sugar with nuts mixed in. I’m adding the water now, hoping for the best.
These are a mess. I followed the recipe step by step and ended up with a black soupy goo. Was the lid supposed to be off? Your recipe was the same as another I looked at that was made in an oven. I poured it onto waxed paper to cool and now we cant get it off the paper. I’m so sad. It took so long and now we have to throw it away. My kids are so disappointed.
I am so sorry for your disappointment, it almost sounds like your slow cooker is cooking too hot, because you stated it was black, it should be a little caramel in color. Hope you will try it again, because they are so good!
Just made a batch. They are so good! My hubs was a bit wary until I told him they are candied, not glazed. Now he’s warned me I may not have any till take to work tomorrow!
Do you removes the almonds from the egg white mixture before adding the cinnamon/sugar?
Hello Tammy, no you just add the cinnamon/sugar mixture to the almonds that were coated in the egg white mixture. Enjoy and Happy Crocking!
Has anyone tried this recipe with pecans?
Lid on or off?
Thank you for the question, the lid is on between the stirrings. 🙂 Happy Crocking!
Thank you! I wonder if that’s why somevpeople were having issues with the recipe. I’m giving it a try this morning.
Our batch came out gooey and sticky. After you coat the almonds in the sugar mixture are you supposed to put all the almonds and mixture in the crock pot or just separate out the coated almonds and put them into the crock pot and toss the excess sugar mixture?
Hello … Melissa you just add the cinnamon/sugar mixture to the almonds that were coated in the egg white mixture, you don’t separate the almonds out. Enjoy and Happy Crocking!
ok thank you . do you have any idea why it turned out sticky and gooey ? it was more of like a gooey bark ….? they look nothing like the picture . we followed each step very carefully . i am glad i made them today rather then on my christmas party lol they taste amazing just way to messy to eat and they are sticky , almost like carmel .
Do you use dark brown sugar or light?
Dena, I am not sure it matters, but I usually have light brown sugar on hand, so that is what I have normally used. Happy Crocking!
I followed the directions, but no good!!
The coating is still grainy and not sticking to the nuts
Hi Mary, I make these at holiday time, and have not experienced this problem. I know you stated you followed the directions, but I am wondering if you stirred as directed through the crocking time, and also follow the last step for the last hour? I am sorry for your disappointment.
I followed this recipe exactly and the almonds turned out badly. They are sticky, taste a little scorched, and are dark brown in color. I used my brand new crock pot set to low and stopped cooking them after 3 hours. Very disappointed, especially because of to the cost of the recipe.
Amy did you stir every 20 minutes? This is a very important step, and you will see it on step #6. Hope this helps, and Happy Crocking!
I am making these as I am writing this and i am having the same issues as some others, in that my sugar isn’t melting at all. Also it seems to be barely sticking to the nuts. I followed the recipe perfectly so I’m not sure what happened. I have a good new crockpot so I’m thinking maybe i need to add the water sooner? I have about an hour to go so I guess I’ll see how they turn out!
I am at the 3 hour mark, about to add the water. The sugars have not dissolved. I stirred every 20 minutes. Adding the water and hoping for the best. Expensive experiment. 20 more minutes to go and the sugars are still grainy. Not feeling hopeful. While waiting, I’ve been reading several other recipes, and discovered where the problems are: #1. It should’t be 1 1/2 c. of each sugar, only 1/2c. Big difference. #2. Cinnamon should be teaspoons, not “T” (tablespoon). Very disappointed.
